Arkaba Station
Southern Outback, South Australia

"Out here the vastness and splendour of the Flinders Ranges can make you feel pretty small".

Arkaba Station is set amongst one of the most ancient landscapes on earth. The area's geological history goes back to 700, 000, 000 years. The land rose and fell, the earth's crust moved and was broken, and parts forced together were pushed up to form mountain ranges.

Nestled next to the inspirational Wilpena Pound, a huge dish like a cupped hand with bent fingers and with the western border containing the Elder Range and its peak Mt. Aleck, Arkaba encompasses the heart of the Flinders Ranges.

The Rasheed family heritage and pastoral ties date back before the turn of the century, with Deans father pioneering tourism in the area by utilising Wilpena Pound.

Arkaba's woolshed was built in 1856 and retains its historic charm, it is still utilised as a working shearing shed. Last century it served as a depot shed with up to 40 blade shearers handling the flocks of many surrounding properties.

Arkaba is a heritage-listed property dating from 1851. About 7500 sheep now graze its 100 square miles.

Hosts Dean and Lizzie Rasheed offer guests the opportunity to witness the areas breathtaking beauty and natural wonders. To experience the beauty of the property you can hike the trails, take a trail ride on horseback, enjoy some amazing four wheel drive adventures or scenic flights. Understand the workings of a sheep station and learn about the fauna and flora. Be given an insight into local aboriginal history of the area or simply put your feet up and enjoy the surrounding landscape, especially at sunrise and sunset.

Arkaba offers the adventurer the opportunity to witness the Flinders Ranges at its best with the comforts and hospitality of home.
